History of the ICS logo

ICSOC FINAL-Logo- Knot-Only.png

Our logo was first used on a poster for the inaugural concert in December 1985 which was held to raise funds to set up the Calgary Irish Cultural Society. Dan Bolger had noticed the eye-catching design in the program for an All-Ireland Hurling Final in Dublin, and found a graphic designer to duplicate it.

The logo consists of a Celtic knot from the Book of Durrow which has no beginning and no end, symbolizing our ties to Ireland from Canada.

The gold logo on a green background was used to promote the ICS on our float in the 1985 Calgary Stampede Parade.

Ron Nolan created matching sculptured plaques for a subsequent float and his designs were later hung in Bunratty Hall and still decorate the venue today.
